This scoping review examines the methods and research adjustments used during health technology innovation to centre equity and promote inclusive coproduction with underserved communities. Drawing on a broad international evidence base, the study synthesises how developers can intentionally design for equity throughout the innovation lifecycle - from co-design and community engagement to evaluation and deployment. The findings offer a practical framework for embedding equity considerations into the development of digital health tools, ensuring that priority communities can access, use, and derive equal benefit from new technologies.

This protocol outlines the methodology for a comprehensive scoping review to identify evidence-based tools and approaches that improve equitable access, use, and benefit from digital health technologies during the innovation process. Motivated by the digital health inequities exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic - where priority communities were unable to access or benefit from rapidly deployed technologies - the review maps the landscape of equity-centred methods and establishes a reproducible framework for examining how technology innovation can be made more inclusive.
